How to teach your child holiday vocabulary

The holiday season is such a unique time of year! Some words are only used for this occasion.
For example, think of: mistletoe, garland, and gingerbread cookie. 🎄

These words aren't always easy for a young child to understand and say. It's important to introduce new words regularly and in different contexts. Take the opportunity to discuss the characteristics that define the concept associated with these new words.

Then, an important step in learning new vocabulary: create opportunities for the child to produce the word. That said, be subtle so the child doesn't feel any pressure.

For example, here's what you can do:
- Offer a choice
Do you prefer the candy cane or the gingerbread cookie?
- Start the word to prompt oral completion
Do you want milk with your cook....
- Play a guessing game
Guess what kind of cookies I'm baking!
