Language Stimulation: What Kind of Parent Are You?

Did you know that parental influence on language stimulation is so important that the Hanen Centre in Toronto developed a specific program to help parents better stimulate their child's language development?

The authors of this program identified 7 roles that parents generally adopt. Depending on the role adopted, parents may or may not promote interactions with their child, and therefore, language development.

To offer you stimulation advice tailored to your style, we have prepared a worksheet with statements concerning 5 of these roles. For each statement, indicate whether you act this way often, sometimes, or rarely. Then compile your answers and see what type of communicator you are. Advice that applies to you for better stimulating your child's language development is then provided.
